Finley is fun
I went to Finley for a weekend get away. WOW! It was fun and the people were great! I learned a lot about farming and building. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the town paper and perusing the downtown. I have told many people about my advientures in Finley and I look forward to returning as I was only able to attend one of your drinking establishments and would still like to visit the other.

Checking in Again
I realized that I hadn't checked in for a very long time. I see that not many have. Let's spread the word about this site of our home town and perhaps we can reconnect with a LOT of people this way.

Good Times in Finley
My father was stationed at Finley not once but twice. The first time we lived in a red house across the street from the courthouse and the second time in base housing. I think the best times of my teen years was spent at Finley would love to be able to get in touch with people that remember me. My email is redsgal039@nc.rr.com.

Mr.
Hi, everyone. I'm Harvey Keene. My dad's grandfather, John Keene, helped settle the area around Hope many years ago. We visited a few years ago and discovered that John had helped in the founding of Hope, the Hope State Bank (now storage), and was a member of the local Masons. My warmest thanks to Mindy Harvey at the courthouse who helped us discover some of our family roots. My dad, about to turn 89, remembers the visit and assistance that Mindy provided with fond memories. I hope to visit again and head further east to Maine where John is reputed to have come from prior to the Civil War. I would appreciate anyone who can help me in this journey.

Family Visit
I am the son of Oscar and Alice Carlson, i recently enjoyed a visit from my cousin Jay Hendrickson and his wife Delores here in Las Vegas. I lived on the Engan farm and was born in Sharon in 1950. Jay and I touched on old times and my family ties to the Finley area, i had stayed with Vernon, Judy, Jay, and Gail a couple of summers in my youth at their farm.

Wow nice site, good to see picts....
Hello everyone, don,t know that you will remember me, but I'm sure I made some type of impression during my high school days up there 8). The site looks great, I see the old cannon wheel found a new home in the flower garden and I think that I know that "slew" thats shown. Hope everyone is doing well and the year has been kind so far. Sure am sorry that I missed the 785th radar squadron reunion, guess there were a couple of people asking about me to my folks. Yes, I'm still alive and can be reached at abearz@verizon.net I sure miss the people up there, Dallas is just not quite as friendly, a little warmer but not the "home town" atmosphere. Best wishes to all, let me know where and when the FSHS class of 79 reunion is going to be, if work allows I will make every effort. For now, .j.

Stories From My Father
My father, Alvin O. Ellison, was born in Finley in 1906 and left for California in 1923. He told me of fond days swinning in the old swimming hole (he said it was really a mud pond), playing tricks on the school custodian, etc. He said it was a wonderful place to grow up. He father, Peter Ellison was a carpenter. I was told something about building the largest barn in the area in those days. I always wanted to visit Finley, but had to wait until about 1986, after dad died. My mother went along as did our two daughters. They laughed when I pointed out the sign at the intersection of Norway Street and Gordon Street as they have had an in-depth "schooling" in their Norsk heritage. My father's last trip to Norway was for the Finley Reunion of 1972. Unfortunately, dad was blind by that time, but he still enjoyed the experience.
Names of some other families that left Finley in the 1920s and 30s were the Strands and Needhams, the former being cousins to my father with descendents now living in California and Idaho.
I personally hope to visit Finley in the next couple of years and wonder if the Korner Cafe is still there.

Remembering Finley
I visited your website today for the first time. I lived in Finley for a few years early in my childhood. My father was stationed at the base in the mid-70s. I attended Finley-Sharon school from 1st to 3rd grade. I remember spending summer days at the community pool and getting ice cream at the small ice cream stand close by. I often tell people about snow drifts that came up over the roof of our house, building snow caves in the winter to play in, and ice skating on the little pond behind our house. I remember spring most of all and the sound of snow melting after a long winter.
Though the names are fuzzy now -- 30 years later -- I remember some friends from back then - Tina, Trisha, Kyle - and many others. I look back on my time in Finley fondly and returned there once in my 20s to have a look around. Having traveled to many places since leaving Finley - it's fun to tell people of the life I had in such a nice, small place -- so unfamiliar to most people I meet. I feel lucky to have grown up in Finley.
