THE ISSUE:  Our community is facing a serious issue with our grocery store. Currently, the roof leaks in several places around the store. The Stone's (the store operators) have been patching the leaking portions of the roof, but that is not a long term solution and the repairs they continually make no longer hold. When it rains, Tracy does all she can to keep operations going by using buckets and plastic sheeting to catch and divert water away from the store shelves. It's a losing battle. After researching the option of a new roof, it was determined that the foundation is incapable of supporting the weight of a new roof. A grocery store is a vital part of any community and the EDC has been working with the Stones to find a solution and make sure Finley isn't at risk of losing ours. This is what this project is about.

THE PROJECT:  The EDC is constructing a 76' x 100' buliding to house the grocery store. The larger size allows for wider aisles and an expanded inventory. It is also one level, making it more accessible to our elderly and handicapped residents. The EDC will own the building and rent it to the Stone's. The estimated cost for the completed project is $350,000. To make this work for the Stone's or future proprietors, the EDC must bring the financed portion of the cost down to make the rent amount affordable to the tenant(s).

After identifying this need, the communities of Finley and Sharon pulled together and arranged fundraisers as well as volunteer help to assist with the construction costs. Several businesses and organizations have made large monetary contributions, and many community members have donated several hours of their personal time and equipment in order to ensure the successful completion of this project. As a community, we are dedicated to ensuring that our community grocery store remains in existence.

As the project nears completion, we have yet to reach our goal of $180,000 in donations. We are asking for help to reach this objective. Any and all contributions are appreciated. Checks can be made payable to the Finley EDC and mailed to:
